20 Studies & 6 Caprices
[Solo Guitar & Studies] [Book & CD]
Luigi Mozzani (b. Faenza, 1869 – d. Rovereto, 1943) occupies a special place in the world of the guitar. A genius, he succeeded in excelling as a guitarist, a teacher, a composer and a luthier. A diploma in the oboe and professional orchestral experience provided him with an even broader vision of music. He composed a limited number of works for guitar: three notebooks of studies, an incomplete Method and a few pieces of sheet music. The latter included Feste lariane, a theme and variations that brought him some renown and that – as would be discovered later – was in reality a reworking of a piece published years earlier by the Argentine composer José Sancho and was also present, with some variations, in the works of other authors.
This volume brings together 20 Studies taken from the Method, for the first time in a complete version, 6 Caprices and Feste lariane.
This revised version, edited by Giovanni Podera and Giulio Tampalini, is based on a detailed comparison of the original sources. The enclosed CD contains a performance of the works by Giulio Tampalini.
