3 Caprices For Guitar
[Solo Guitar]
First premiered in Maui, Hawaii in 2022 at Benjamin Verdery’s annual summer masterclass, the 3 Caprices for Guitar by virtuoso guitarist Andrew Hull is a three-movement, technical tour-de-force in the vein of Joaquín Rodrigo’s Tres piezas españolas. Andrew is a Guitar Foundation of America International Competition finalist, former student of famed composer Dusan Bogdanovic, and Fulbright Scholar to Uruguay where he studied with the late Abel Carlevaro. The 3 Caprices for Guitar include a blazing homage to Heitor Villa-Lobos (“Registro Cafuné”); an intricate theme, variations and finale dedicated to Astor Piazzola (“Milonga Nueva”) and a raucous can-can in the style of Jacques Offenbach (“Can-Can Moderne”). Their combination of virtuosity and musical throughline make these pieces not only great concert pieces individually, but a powerful musical statement that tests the guitar’s technical limits. Includes access to online audio.
