Aristocratica
(as recorded by Paulo on Lira Brasileira)
“…a truly noble piece of writing which successfully avoids the ever-present danger of sentimental nostalgia.” — Paul Fowles, Classical Guitar Magazine
Aristocratica is a Schottisch-Choro dedicated to Maite Valero Bovet. This aristocratic dance left high society ballrooms and was incorporated into popular regional dances, becoming a favorite in the Empire capital in 1851. Of German origin, the Schottisch is a graceful swinging dance, well suited to Brazilian people. Among the great composers who have written in this style are Villa-Lobos, Anacleto Medeiros, Pixinguinha and Radames Gnattali.
