Cantiga de Santa Maria
[Solo Guitar]
Cantiga de Santa Maria is based on a song from the 13th century. The modal melody and irregular time meters suggested to me a modern harmonic setting. The rhythmic vitality of the theme inspired the creation of additional material. I originally composed this piece for my ensemble, Jazzantiqua, scored for vihuela, recorder, flute, soprano saxophone, piano, double bass and percussion. While not possible to transcribe the score for solo guitar, I tried to maintain the nature and spirit of the ensemble version. (Frederic Hand) For advanced guitarists.
