[2 Guitars] [score & parts]

Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) composed Crisantemi, elegy for string quartet, between January and February 1890, in a single night of work, touched by the news of the death of Amedeo of Savoy, Duke of Aosta, who died in Turin on 18 January 1890. The composition was published by Ricordi in March of the same year

In 1893, Puccini will take up the two themes of the quartet in the last act of Manon Lescaut.

This transcription is motivated by the affinity between the character of the music and the sound of the guitar duo.

From a melodic and harmonic point of view, the essence of the composition has been respected without any reduction. It was necessary to transpose from the original tone of C sharp minor to that of B minor.

The fingering is the work of the guitar duo formed by Claudio Maccari and Paolo Pugliese, whom the author thanks for their collaboration, together with the editor Luigi Biscaldi.
