Dialogos de La Isla y El Mar
[Guitar & Cello] [score]
The composer comments: “It is the sonata that I always wanted to do for cello and piano, now designed for cello and guitar. I do not call it a sonata so as not to qualify it as such. The conservative public and the interpreters in general, respect the sonata form very much and it would have been perhaps even more appropriate to name it that way because of its three-part structure, although it is separated from the traditional scheme.
Brouwer practices intertextuality with a sense of spiraling in time. For example, in the first time he alludes to the Ballad for flute and strings and to the ancient manuscript found in a bottle for piano trio , in the second movement to his Remote Songs for strings and the Elegiaco Concerto and in the last, to Los Negros witches have fun to assemble.
I. Diálogos de la isla y el mar -- II. Manuscrito de la isla y el mar -- III. Immenso mar de agua y fuego
