[Solo Guitar]

How lucky d'OZ is to have a guitarist/composer of this stature on their books. I have in the past reviewed several of French/Canadian Patrick Roux's works and as far as I can recall have never been less than enthusiastic about them and Milonga del Mar is no exception.

With the customary South American beat of stressed 1st, 4th and 7th notes in a bar this work begins serenely in dark and brooding mood with a pervading melancholy tune hovering over proceedings. All this changes after 40 bars where an optimistic, much more joyful interlude takes over at a quicker pace before a nostalgic and sorrowful conclusion brings things to a close. Ideally suited to the Intermediate-plus player, this very emotive work of real beauty was a pleasure to play through and it deserves recognition.
