Prelude
[4 Guitars] [score & parts]
In 1858, César Franck was appointed principal organist and choirmaster at the Church of Sainte-Clotilde in France. It was during this period that he improvised and composed the Six pièces pour grand orgue (1860–1862). The prelude I selected comes from one of these works entitled Prelude, Fugue and Variations. The guitar orchestra arrangement highlights the three-voice melody beautifully, supported by the contrabass guitar (tuned one octave lower), which evokes the organ pedal. This arrangement is well suited to an intermediate-level guitar orchestra.
