Prelude, Ricercare et Allegro
[Solo Guitar]
MOVEMENTS
1. Prélude
2. Ricercar
3. Allegro
Though the form of the composition is loosely related to Bach’s Prelude, Fugue and Allegro, the language of the music is based upon my Levantine Suite. The music is melodically and harmonically modal and it invokes archaic layers of the Eastern Mediterranean music. While Prelude and Allegro are very improvisational in nature, the Ricercar is modelled after the “ideal” Renaissance form and follows points of imitation in a very free manner. The piece is dedicated to the guitarist Ysé Dastugue.
