Reading Italo Calvino has always produced a strange familiarity for me. There's a lightness in his writing that isn't a lack of weight, but rather precision. In Difficult Loves , the characters don't scream or flail, but the entire world seems to shift with each of their hesitant steps.
(...) These preludes aren't meant to illustrate the stories. I prefer to think of them as parallels, like shadows or echoes. The guitar allows for that degree of reserve and suggestion. (...)
