Sonata del Decameron Negro No. 3
[Solo Guitar]
I. Guijes y Gnomos -- II. Treno por Oya -- III. Burlesca del Aire -- IV. La Risa de los Griots
The Black Decameron Sonata, No. 3 (2012) responds to my admiration for the tales and stories collected by the anthropologist Leo Frobenius in his book of the same name, written between the 19th and 20th centuries. Its four parts are linked to Afro-Cuban heritage. The güije is the Cuban gnome who inhabits the rivers; Oyá is the goddess of death in the Afro-Cuban pantheon; and the griot - a mythical figure from Africa, historian, storyteller, and singer - .
