[Solo Guitar]
My friendship with Alejo Carpentier was an unsuspected and priceless privilege for me. It was a discontinuous relationship that was magnified by the invitation to see him at his house-hotel in Paris when he was writing Baroque Concerto, showing me the facsimile of Vivaldi that he had on the piano. (...)Alejo Carpentier is and will continue to be the fundamental motif of many of my works (The kingdom of this world, Journey to the seed, The city of the columns, The harp and the shadow). Added to these is the feature film The Resource of the Method, by Miguel Littín.
It would take an entire book to reflect the points of contact of Carpenter's "wonderful real" and the sonorities that have characterized my music. When I was barely thirty years old, Carpentier reviewed my work when he was referring to the avant-garde. I have that privilege and honor.
