Prominent in Spain's Aesthetic revival was a group which later became known as the Generation of 1927, it included Federico García Lorca and many prominent Spanish composers, writers and painters. The "guitarist" associated with the generation was Regino Sainz de la Maza, a close friend of Lorca's to whom many of the guitar works of this period were dedicated. Spain's civil war (1936-39) interrupted cultural life, and the ensuing Franco dictatorship resulted in the exile of many Spanish artists and strict censorship in Spain of their artistic output. This was a lost generation. This historic re-issue of Spanish Guitar Music, mainly from the archives of the Union Musical Espa?ola, and under the editorship of Rafael Catalá, now brings many of these pieces back into circulation. Further volumes are in preparation.
