The Book of Imaginary Beings is a musical composition inspired by myths of the Old World seen through the eyes of the New. It is based on the homonymous book by renowned Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges, which presents a compendium of mythological beings from around the world. Master Leo Brouwer chose characters from Middle Eastern and European mythologies and created a suite of four vignettes exploring their attributes and meanings.
The Book of Imaginary Beings is a masterpiece of orchestration, full of startling contrasts, striking beauty, and indelible images created on two intimate sounding instruments.
