Trois morceaux Op.65 (Fantaisie hongroise, Fantaisie originale, Le gondolier), Fantaisie ber Motive aus der Oper: Don Juan [Mozart] Op. 28, Fantasy on the theme from Capulets and Montagues [Bellini], Fantasy on Norma, …… Caprice sur un theme de WeberJohann Kasper Mertz is one of the most representative guitarist-composers of the Romantic era. His music is full of rhapsodic phrases and free structures which are typical of the 19th century.

The present collection contains 13 pieces, including the popular Troix Morceaux op.65 as well as operatic fantasies based on operas by Mozart, Bellini, Verdi and others.

These fantasies were originally written for an extended-range guitar. The music has here been edited for six-string guitar, as close to the originals as possible, based on Mertz's autograph, contemporary manuscripts and first editions.
