Variations on Gott Erhalte Franz, den Kaiser
[Solo Guitar]
Matiegka has succeeded in making a great contribution to the variation genre with this composition. Many parts of the work shine with sparkling ideas and harmonically interesting progressions. After a while, however, the repetitive melody seems too stereotypical, so that in the new version variations were omitted (nos. 3, 6, 7), and instead an introduction composed by T. Hoppstock in the early Beethoven style was placed before the theme. Exciting changes were also made in other places.
- URTEXT after the original print from 1807
- mixed version Matiegka-Hoppstock
